Today is Mother's Day. As a church, we want to magnify motherhood. The giving
of a present is just a simple way to show our appreciation to all mothers. It's not easy
to be a mother. A mother once said, "I remember that I have three theories about
raising children before I was married. Now I have three children and no theories".
The Bible said, "Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from Him"
(Psalms 127:3). One important truth, a mother should realize that children are not just for parents, they're for the Lord. In fact, nothing we have belongs to us.
One of the hardest lessons for mothers is they need to learn not to compare
one child with another. We all encounter problems in raising our children.
Problems are given to us by God. he is behind the circumstances of life.
The psalmist expressed his experience, "It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees" (Psalms 119:71). Problems drove a mother to pray
just as Hannah did. Her weeping prayer which arises from the bitterness of the soul
is far more effective than the dry prayer we often utter. When tears are in our eyes,
our prayers come from our hearts. Hannah was appealing to God's power and
authority, because she knew that there was nothing she can do. As a result, a son
was given and she dedicated him to the Lord. Children are on a loan to us by God.
It is our job to shepherd and train them for the Lord's work. Hannah is an example
of a model for motherhood. She dedicated herself and her son to the Lord.
She was growing in her relationship with God. If we want our children to love God,
it must be real in our lives first.
